2005-2006 Season

May 2006: Mozart Celebrated. As part of city-wide birthday celebrations, Monica and PBO offer the Concerto for Flute and Harp, inspired by Marie Antoinette, and the great Symphony No. 40 in G minor.

April 2006: Handel In Rome. PBO favorite Richard Egarr directs vocal masterpieces by the young Handel, with soprano sensation Sari Gruber.

February 2006: Music For a Prince. Monica leads a concert of rare chamber music by Haydn written for the pleasure and performances of his patron, Prince Nicolaus Esterhazy.

December 2005: Handel's Messiah and Handel's Messiah and More. Handel’s complete masterpiece as well as a new shorter performance of Messiah highlights and Vivaldi’s rousing Gloria.

November 2005: An Imperial Offering. Monica Huggett presents Bach’s great Musical Offering to Frederick II and music by Count van Wassenaer.

September 2005: Choréographie (Paris 1700). Andrew Lawrence-King returns to Portland with dance music from the court of Louis XIV.

April 2005: Italy. Monica's astounding rendition of Vivaldi's "Four Seasons"

March 2005: America - The Colonies. Commemorating the Lewis & Clark Bicentennial, including sacred harp

February 2005: Austria. Andrew Manze brings us Austria's masters Haydn and Mozart

December 2004: Handel's Messiah. Nicholas Kraemer brings you an all-new performance in its original setting

November 2004: Spain, South America and Africa. "The harmony of three worlds" including harp and voice

October 2004: Germany. The world tour begins with the Germany of Biber and Bach

March 2004: Papa Haydn & Chevalier St. George. Music from the father of Classical music and a violinist who was a swordsman

2000-2001 Season

April 2001: The Rise of Romanticism. A passionate rendering of Beethoven's Septet and Schubert's Octet.

February 2001: Sturm und Drang. PBO and Guest Director Paul Goodwin offer selections from a transitional period in music history.

January 2001: Telemann's Brandenburgs. Reinhard Goebel lead PBO in a set of pieces compared to Bach's famous collection.

December 2000: Handel's Messiah. Harpsichordist Gary Cooper put his unique stamp on the perennial favorite.

October 2000: Dido & Aeneas. Purcell's brilliant and well-loved opera for soloists, orchestra and chorus, along with Matthew Locke's Iincidental music for The Tempest.

September 2000: The Brandenburg Concertos. Monica Huggett and the PBO kick off the season with Bach's complete set, 1 through 6.

September 2000: Bach Festival. A new feature this year, five programs and six consecutive nights of intimate music, the Master at his best.

1999-2000 Season

April 2000: Vivaldi’s Harmonic Spirit. Cellist Sarah Freiberg and viola d’amore soloist Rob Diggins join Monica Huggett in a sparkling performance of concertos from Vivaldi’s L’Estro Armonico.

March 2000: Monica & Byron. It was such a hit last season, that fortepianist Byron Schenkman and Monica Huggett are teaming up again for a program featuring Mozart's Piano Concerto No. 3 and the Beethoven Symphony No. 4.

February 2000: L’Europe Rustique. British conductor and harpsichord virtuoso Gary Cooper – Monica Huggett’s colleague in Sonnerie – debuts with PBO in a spirited program of rustic instrumental music.

January 2000: Chapel Royal Anthems The always-surprising, ever-energetic conductor Paul Goodwin will stage a spectacular Handel collection with the PBO Chorus.

December 1999: Messiah for the Millennium. Eric Milnes, a regular Portland favorite, returns to recreate a Messiah performance from late in Handel’s life. An expanded orchestra and the large choir from Trinity Cathedral will lift you out of your seats!

November 1999: Elegant Serenade. Monica Huggett shines in Haydn’s Violin Concerto in C Major and Mozart’s Serenata Notturna. A Boccherini guitar symphony and more Haydn complete the program.

October 1999: Splendors of the Court. Reinhard Goebel, the world-renowned leader of Musica Antiqua Köln, kicks off the season with sparkling, "big orchestra" music from the 18th Century court of Dresden.

1998-1999 Season

February '99: World-renowned lute and mandolin player Paul O'Dette makes his PBO debut in an intimate evening of Italian concerti.

January '99: Brilliant fortepianist Byron Schenkman joins Monica Huggett and PBO for the first time in a special Beethoven program.

December '98: Internationally known conductor Paul Goodwin returns to Portland to direct Handel's Messiah, a seasonal sell-out.

November '98: Eric Milnes directs PBO in a Bach program, featuring Gonzalo Ruiz on oboe d'amore and two exhilarating Cantatas.

September '98: Monica Huggett and soprano Christine Baird showcase violin and voice in works by Vivaldi, including the Four Seasons.
